其实Through xxx是状语，应该修饰的是后面examined这个动作吧，应该错在“ scientists who determined xxx”这里，定从指的是先行词的固有属性，但是这里不能理解为固有属性。

examine molars, 还有determine... 这两个动作之间的关系不对，应该是并列平等发生的动作，而不是determine。。。做examine molars这个主句的状语 （自己这样理解的，可以再查查CD论坛看看有没有牛人解释更清楚）
