The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft will orbit the asteroid Eros for a year, slowly moving closer to the surface of the object to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.
to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to
to make ever more and more precise measurements, which scientists are hoping to enable them
for making ever more precise measurements, and scientists hope that they will be able to
with the purpose of making more precise measurements than ever, and which scientists hope will enable them to
in order to make more precise measurements than it ever did, and scientists are hoping they will be able to
选项A:Correct. 定语从句 that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago是一个嵌入式关系分句,将先行词和省略部分代入其中,则有:
scientists hope (that) measurements will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.
C:for making ever more precise measurements应改为不定式短语to make ever more precise measurements,这点考查了不定式和ing的区别。
选项D:making应改为to make错误同选项(C)。
Today's traffic was so heavy and I was late for my work.

定语从句 that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago是一个嵌入式关系分句,将先行词和省略部分代入其中,则有:
scientists hope (that) measurements will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.
scientists hope (that) measurements will enable them to understand
A. that (scientists hope) will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago
B. scientists are hoping to enable them错误
CE. 而不是科学家自己就be able to......
D. and which错误

ever more =more and more
E.g:These are the parcels that are going to be posted.
ever more =more and more ,放在一起wordy 。

ever more=more and more
C,D,E中的\'and\"把句子变成了两个independent的parts, 但是事实上“ precise measurements”和“understand\"之间有直接的逻辑联系(因为precise measurements 所以才 understand), 所以用\"and”不正确, B中\" ever more and more\" 重复
"ever more" means "more and more"/"increasingly
