chiseled from solid rock感觉就是一个东西从石头上剥离或者分离出来的，那A和B的主语发出者是regions就不合逻辑了；C的are dotting用进行时态不合适，题目没有强调是正在进行，D的一般现在时态也不好，因为它说是centuries ago.所以选E。
