-> x - y + 1 - (x + y - 1) > 0?
-> -2y -2 >0
-> -2y >2
-> y < -1
Thus x - y + 1 is greater than x + y - 1, when y<-1. Statement (2) y<0 is not sufficient, nor does (1).
So the answer should be E.
