photos that showed a dry, apparently dead Martian surface pockmarked with craters like those on the Moon
D选项:不定式短语the Martian surface to be that of the Moon's, dry and apparently dead需改为从句或名词短语,例如a dry, apparently dead Martian surface。
A. a NOUN of WHO‘ s,
D incorrectly imply that the Mariner IV was pockmarked by moonlike craters
A: like that of the Moon's,of和's重复。
C: such as用法错误,此处不是举例,要用like。
D: ..., and it was pockmarked by moonlike craters,and后面的内容与passed, took并列,it变成了Mariner IV,语义错误。
it's obvious that "photographs" is the intended meaning. So, no problem.
If there were a genuine ambiguity here, then you'd have a point.
E.g.,
A close friend of Mr. Smith, who was seen walking in downtown Gainesville, ...
Here, it's genuinely impossible to tell whether the person walking in downtown Gainesville was Mr. Smith or his friend. So here you've got a problem. But, if the meaning is obvious, "ambiguity" is not an issue.
the Moon's 已经表示 名词性物主代词,再加上that of 就是重复。即。 要么like that of the Moon, or like the Moon's
such as 不能表示比较,such as 和like在gm里比较严格: like表示比较, such as 表示举例
A: that of the Moon's
show 约束力小,不能用show sth to be...
photos that showed...=which showed
A错在in that。 A is like B in that C,它的隐含意思是只在C这个方面A像B,也就是说除了C以外,A和B都是不像的。
A还有个that of the Moon's所有格错误

并列 it was....
A surface Vs that of the Moon's
C the Moons' 类比有误;such as 使用错误,此处不该是举例
D photos showing the Martian surface of .. 只展示了surface这一件事;photos that show ..
跳跃修饰:往往因为倒装(an evidence was obtained in 1920s that..)

比如:https://bichu.com.cn/question/Prep2012-SC-9 里的which就不是就近修饰Venus,而是修饰a transit of venus,所以这边选项A\B\C需要靠其它的错误来排除

考点:1/非限定从;2/连词;(like以及such as);
另外,that of the Moon's是否也有误呢?应该变成that of the Moon?或者moon's?
同意!
