A star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole after it passes through a red giant stage, depending on mass.
A star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole after it passes through a red giant stage, depending on mass.
After passing through a red giant stage, depending on its mass, a star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
After passing through a red giant stage, a star’s mass will determine if it compresses itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
Mass determines whether a star, after passing through the red giant stage, will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
The mass of a star, after passing through the red giant stage, will determine whether it compresses itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
ron: choice b contains an unacceptable ambiguity: the modifying phrase 'depending on its mass' is clearly supposed to what the star is doing, but, in choice b, it could technically also refer to passing through a red giant stage. (in other words, one could read the sentence as though the star's passing through a red giant stage depends upon the star's mass).
B 选项中的错误在于“After passing through a red giant stage, depending on its mass,”意思是,star是通过红矮星来决定变化的,与提议不符
AB: it is not clear what the modifying phrase depending on mass is supposed to modify. Because of its placement, it appears to modify red giant stage; it should, however, modify star. CE:the star itself passes through the red giant stage, not its mass.
B,depending on its mass里的its可以指代到a red giant stage,歧义;相比D,B把after、depending一大堆甩在句子最前面,语意重点star被甩到了后面,弱化了重点,没有D好。
B 中的 a star不能做depend的主语,应该是Whether 变成xxx做depend on主语,如果改成the possibility of compressing...

comma+doing除了可以做伴随状语,也可以做定语或状语,A:把depending on看成前一个动词的状语, after the star passes through a red giant stage, depending on mass,穿还是不穿取决于质量能读通;把它看成定语修饰a red giant stage, depending on mass,一个取决于体积的红巨过程,也能读通;说明depending on用得不好

我感觉b选项这个depending on its mass只能指代的是a star,因为如果它是修饰前面的a red giant stage,前面应该不用“,”
B里面depending on its mass,前面有a red giant stage,后面有star,修饰哪一个?

itself=> the star
