我看到国外的能论坛说between-and/to 并不是一个需要深究的点。真正的考点是can vs. could. 本题的whale有能力是一个客观事实用can（ability），这点从foraging和interspersing看出。Could有possibility的意思，还有说could过去有这种能力，现在没有的意味。As much as一般用于肯定句，so much as 一般用于否定。

问个考点以外的，between...and总在这里是不是有点儿不太恰当，因为表示二者选一
这不是两者选一，是休息的时间是1~8小时，可能修饰5小时，可能修饰7小时的。

请问英文中有so much... as... 这样的表述吗？如果有的话，能否举个简单的例子？
在之前的练习题中倒是有学习过"not so much... as... (与其说是…倒不如说是…)"
肯定句中一般用as much as，否定句才用so much as，所以一般没有单独的so much as结构。
我一直觉得这道题目很奇怪，大家想想这道题目的意思：
between 1 and 8 hours 是什么意思？要么1小时，要么8小时。
但是我想句意是，日夜不停的搜寻饲料，鲸鱼在剩余时间里面进食1-8小时，而不是1或8小时，感觉between在句意上说不通啊
