我觉得这里that不能加，因为that修饰的是一个词，及它所有属性。所以如果加that，这里的that就会表示circulation in the .....，显然 也就不是对比对象了。对比对象只能是状语，in...和in....
that不是反身代词吗？之前有挺多比较题都用that或者those代表新new copy了呀
that指代了lower circulation
我觉得你这个答案比置顶那个靠谱，that指代了lower circulation所以不对。置顶说比较的是动词，我觉得lower是circulation的前置定语，怎么是比较的动词呢

此题考查的是有省略时的平行。关于D选项，如果句子中出现了that等代词，找到先行词（这里是circulation in the six months..）再带入局句子中读一下看是否合理。这里不合理。
问了一下老师。 这个就是时间状语的比较，所以可以省略其他部分直接加比较的部分，比如说I walk faster than yesterday，状语的比较可以省略掉其他的主谓成分的
想了半天，D里面的that指代前面的circulation，一开始觉得没问题，但仔细一想，前面的circulation是限定在1995年10月到1996年3月的六个月里面的，和一年前的是不一样的，所以个人观点这个空如果填的是circulation这个词本身那没问题，不破坏平行，如果是that就不合适了。欢迎XDJM们更正~~

看了下面的解答，Newspaper had lower circulation in six months than in the same period 中不能是than that in the same period，但是The circulation of newspaper in six months is lower than that in the same period 要有that，是不是说宾语不用that但主语要用that呢？

为什么比较的不是circulation? circulation前面还有lower呢，那than后面为什么不是和circulation相对应的对比对象？
如果是比较circulation, 那么会说the circulation in the six months is lower than that of a similar period

我的理解是，"I have bigger cake in my room than in this room"， 是有区别于 "I have a bigger cake in my room than the one in this room."的。不知道这样解释对不对？
为什么D不对啊

因为这里比较的是时间，并且THAN 后面其实省略的是谓语HAD
