"but what is " 这句，为什么要有 两个 “is”？？？
前面那个is是what引导的主语从句里的谓语动词，后面的is则是主句的谓语动词。

but后分句的主语不是 the use.. the reason and the meaning 是复数呀

做题时意思理解错，此处应该是洞穴的时期已经被碳测试法确认，而不是洞穴建设的时期
另外 what 引导的名词性从句根据动词后面的名词的单复数来决定
that which=what 但是用what 更简洁
