选项分析：
A选项：本选项时态有误，由于Trans World Entertainment Corporation是在过去发出了声明的（announce是过去时），因此，该公司的商店应是在之前就销量不好了，即，are poor至少需要用过去时来表示。
B选项：本选项较难排除。which accounted for its poor sales是非限定性定语从句，只能修饰名词，不能修饰句子。所以accounted for的主语只能是stores，这是不合乎逻辑的。
另外，时态错误同选项(A)。

D．announce to do是错的，正确用法是announce sth.或者announce+从句
because of与on account of：
because of意为"由于，因为"，强调因果关系，在句中仅作状语。because of 既可表示好的原因，也可表示坏的。大多数情况都是用于造成不太好结果的原因。
on account of与because of同义，但语气较为正式。on account of 非常客观的表示原因，适用于任何情况，可作状语、表语，不作定语。
且A的时态也不对
至于prep08语法笔记里说account for 才是正确的搭配...我认为是不对的 on account of+noun同样可以表示原因
A中的问题是时态问题 前面的announce用的是过去式announced，后面的will应该用到的是would

it doesn't look like an official problem. you would want "that" here, as noted above. also, "it would be closing" would be better than "it was closing", since this was a future event at the time of the announcement.
