本题难度较大，有些选项会难以取舍，需要大家深刻的掌握通常成分读取字面意思的能力。
选项分析：
A选项：本选项时态有误，由于Trans World Entertainment Corporation是在过去发出了声明的（announce是过去时），因此，该公司的商店应是在之前就销量不好了，即，are poor至少需要用过去时来表示。
B选项：本选项较难排除。which accounted for its poor sales是非限定性定语从句，只能修饰名词，不能修饰句子。所以accounted for的主语只能是stores，这是不合乎逻辑的。
另外，时态错误同选项(A)。
C选项：Correct. 本选项在语法和逻辑上均是正确的。
D选项：不定式短语to be closing up to one-fourth of its stores需改为宾语从句。这点考查了不定式和从句的区别。用之于本题，显然划线部分是announce的宾语，其形式应根据谓语动词的约束力来判断，announce的约束力较弱，应用宾语从句来表达。
E选项：按照成分来阅读，本选项中having poor sales是announce的宾语，such that引导的是状语从句，语意为：
因为公司声明了销量不好，所以最多1/4的店将会关门。
这两句间没有因果关系，即，应该是因为销量不好，所以关门，不是因为“声明销量不好”，所以关门。
A，公司在过去宣布，因为1/4的店面业绩不好，他们will被关门。 因为都要被关闭了，业绩不好就不是惯常的行为，是过去的行为，用一般现在时不妥；商店要被关掉也是基于announced的未来，用过去将来时would
B，GMAC不用be doing表示将来时，所以be doing表示现在进行时。公司过去宣布他们现在正在关店，应该是announced时点正在关店，用过去进行时；accounted for，过去占据，ok
B．时态错误，同A。首先，在此which只有指代了前面整句逻辑才合理，但which在GMAT里面无法指代前面整句。其次即便which能指代前面整句，which account for:说明（解释）…的原因，此处将句意变为了“关门是poor sales的原因”，所以不正确。
D．announce to do是错的，正确用法是announce sth.或者announce+从句
because of与on account of：
because of意为"由于，因为"，强调因果关系，在句中仅作状语。because of 既可表示好的原因，也可表示坏的。大多数情况都是用于造成不太好结果的原因。
on account of与because of同义，但语气较为正式。on account of 非常客观的表示原因，适用于任何情况，可作状语、表语，不作定语。
宣布自己要做什么事情，而非什么东西被怎么样。
且A的时态也不对
C中的announce to be doing其实结合含义理解一下 会发现这个表达很奇怪
至于prep08语法笔记里说account for 才是正确的搭配...我认为是不对的 on account of+noun同样可以表示原因
A中的问题是时态问题 前面的announce用的是过去式announced，后面的will应该用到的是would
这是我迄今为止见到的唯一一道宾语从句不加that的题，如果有其他这样的题希望有人回复我。

it doesn't look like an official problem. you would want "that" here, as noted above. also, "it would be closing" would be better than "it was closing", since this was a future event at the time of the announcement.

b选项应该是is时态错误，还有which指代是所有商店还是四分之一的商店不明确吧，应该不是which修饰句子的错误？

B选项是个非限定性定从。C因果关系更清晰。
the OA makes sense if the company was in the midst of closing the stores (or had just begun to close them) at the time of the announcement.
if the company had not yet begun to close the stores, then you would use "would": the company announced that it would close / would be closing 1/4 of its stores...
关于OG18那道题，GMAC官方给出了回应，which修饰的是"a broad area of high pressure"
a选项的被动语态不好，句子缺少主语，不如c
B的which能不能指代one-fourth of its stores呢？
A 里面的their有指代sales的嫌疑吗？感觉看后面的句子能被close的只能是stores，不能是sales， 所以应该没有错吧？
题目中的从句是宾语从句么？提取主干的话是TWEC announced+从句，宾语从句that不是不能省略吗？
不知道楼上两位有没有听过helr老师的课，听过就知道首先并没有哪个考点说两套主谓的句子是错的，其次习语这种东西是有规律可循的，死记硬背就会犯林夕同学的错误，要么记错要么压根没见过
