我认为这道题的本质是不是习语搭配，一方面是复数，另一方面是平行，动名词和专有名词是不能够平行的吧
第一是复数问题，第二是enhance和prepare的形式要一致，要么preparation和enhancement平行，要么preparing和enhancing，或者to prepare和to enchance
为什么preparation和performance不能一起做enhance的宾语？此外在平行部分有一个要求是，如果两个被平行的宾语中间有长修饰，那么第二次平行的时候要补充出来介词，即E选项应该为are geared toward enhancing the performance of athletes and toward preparing them...
能说准备的提升么？
关于estimate后面是+at，还是+to be的情况，CD上有前人总结过。当回搬运工：
当age, cost, price, expenditure等 做主语，用at, to be都行：The cost is estimated at/to be 100$. 注意：可不可以用at关键是看is estimated前面的东东（what is estimated to be/at），或estimate后面的东东(I estimate what to be/at)。估计任何东东数字的属性，如果estimate 属性（age,cost,price, The price of the gadget is estimated at 10 $.）, 可以用at/to be；如果estimate该东东，即属性的主体（如有该age的人或化石，该price的商品The gadget is estimated to be 10$）则只能用to be. The price of the gadget是The gadget的属性。

对于estimate的用法，简单地讲：当age,cost,price,等为主语， 比如The price of the gadget is estimated at 10 $,这里The price of the gadget是The gadget的属性，可以用at/to be都行；如果属性的本体作主语——The gadget is estimated to be 10$，则只能用to be.
小结一下：属性作主语，则用estimate to/at都可以；本体做主语，则只能用estimate to
根据这个笔记，这里的fragments应该是属性吧 为什么不能用at呢
这里年份的属性应该要用the age of the fragment，而不是fragment本身吧

上来就把其他选项排除了，直接在D、E里找，可是又明显感觉D、E都很怪，勉强选了一个，果然错了。。。
