先看主干，ABC的主干意思都是研究表示他们有机会，但DE主干意思都是他们会死（be likely to 属于助动词忽略，核心是do）, 一般study后面的核心都是do, 而不是有机会。。。。
C项是同位语成分，即they will die of... 是chance的同样意思，错。
D应该是less和than搭配，而不是as
误选A，因为AS作为连词后面必须是个句子，所以A是语法错误。
as前后结构必须都是who are。
B, have half the chance,or less,...这里or less是插入语,所以这个句子的主干,没有比较级,所以用than 不恰当. (和楼上一位说得一样).
C, 和B一样,没有比较级,所以不应该用than,而且 or less的插入语位置不对,
