A recent review of pay scales indicates that CEO's now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times in 1980.
that CEO's now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times
that, on average, CEO's now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, a ratio that compares to 42 times
that, on average, CEO's now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio
CEO's who now earn on average 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio
CEO's now earning an average of 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, compared to the ratio of 42 times
419 times the pay of blue-collar workers表达的是工资数, 而后者a ratio of是比率。
(B) a ratio that compares的compare不能用主动方式表达,应该是被比较sth be compared to… 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers表达的是工资数,而后者42 times是比率。
(D) 缺少that引导宾语从句;indicates CEO's who…
(E) 缺少that引导宾语从句;indicates CEO's earning… 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers表达的是工资数,而后者42 times是 比率。
MARK
B选项,a ratio that compares to 42 times是修饰419 times的同位语
C选项,as compared to作状语,修饰earn, 本句清晰地对比了419 times the pay of blue workers和42 times their pay,是两个数字间作比较。
42 times their pay
2. AB 42 times倍数不能单独用,C 倍数后面➕n,或者代词(如 twice that in 1999)这么用非常好
3.A a ratio of 42times—wordy,因为42times就是一种倍数(比率)=ratio,直接说42 times就行了
Comparing… )
5.on average
419 times the pay和42 times their pay比,非常对等
a ratio在后面做同位语修饰42times their pay,避免了wordy

B选项,a ratio that compares to 42 times是修饰419 times的同位语,但是ratio本身不能和42times作比较;
C选项,as compared to作状语,修饰earn, 本句清晰地对比了419 times the pay of blue workers和42 times their pay,是两个数字间作比较。

A CEO's now earn 和a ratio of 42 times in 1980对比
B a ratio 是前面419 times the pay的同位语。that compares to 42 times后面都是修饰a ratio的
the real problems with choice a:
- 'the ratio of 42 times' is redundant; it'd be good enough just to say '42 times'. note that the word 'ratio' is not redundant in choices c-d, since it's being used as a modifier to make a logical connection.
- it doesn't say 42 times what. not only is that unacceptably vague, but it also breaks parallelism.
as compared to~~
Also, "as compared to" is the standard form in the reporting of statistics from research.

a 第一分句中的an average of 419more pay 与第二分句中的a ratio of 42times 无法对比
choice b is badly worded: 'compares to 42 times in 1980' seems to say that, on forty-two different occasions in 1980, the ceo:blue-collar ratio reached 419:1. this is not what we are trying to say.
but you can't just leave "42 times" hanging out alone.
percentages, on the other hand, can be referenced by themselves (as long as context, somewhere else, clearly indicates what the percent is of).
for instance, you can say "80% of the X's are male, up from 67% five years ago". here, the second percentage is understood to be also "of the X's".
you can't just write "42 times" by itself. it has to be 42 times something.
if it's 42 times something that was mentioned previously, or 42 times something that is in parallel structure to something that was mentioned previously, then you could use a relative pronoun (i.e., something like "42 times that in 1990", etc).
Ron说A选项中 the comparison made in choice a is ok. it's not quite as ideally worded as the comparison in choices b-c-d, it's fine.
B:a ratio that compared 分词修饰而不是compares 作为谓语动词表达主动, 另外a ratio貌似严格意义上没有先行词,前面的419 times不是名词
