我的理解的本题分析方式如下，请大家品评：
1）由于原句的划线部分之前出现的先行词是matter，因此就直接排除了like和such as，因为根本上不是matter像electromagnetic waves而是重力波像。两相对比下来in the way...do的方式更好，因此排除掉CDE
2）hopefully这个词，一般修饰有生命迹象的物体，因此在这里用它不合适，排除掉A
The reason that "hopefully" is wrong isn't that it's just a "bad word" - it's that it's an adverb, which modifies the verb that it's next to. Here, that would mean that "the use of gravity waves" will "hopefully enable". But because the gravity waves are inanimate, they can't "hopefully" do anything...that would require them to have hope! "It is hoped" removes that direct tie to the subject and verb, so it's then open to some human entity to have the hope, which is more more logical.
