rather than VS instead of:
A instead of B,表示B是默认/假设/首选的结果,但是A代替了它
A rather than B则没有这个意思,它仅仅表示有两个options:A and B,这一次人们选了B。如:
He paid with a check rather than cash.
He paid with a check instead of cash.
As what Ron has said, "which" must modify the NOUN precedes the comma. If the NOUN is followed by a prep. modifier, it is also fine.
However, "which" cannot modify a sentence.
It appears unlikely that interest rates will fall further. She appeared to be in her late thirties.
